Wednesday 18th December 2025
On the evening of the seventeenth day of December, in the waning light of the year 2025, there arose a stirring in the north that few beyond the Craft would mark, yet whose echoes shall long be heard in the halls of Lodge St Olaf. For on that night, an intrepid delegation of eight of St Olaf’s finest Freemasons gathered, cloaked not in secrecy but in purpose, to set forth upon a noble quest: the capture of the fabled Travelling Trowel.
Long had this artefact rested beyond their reach, securely ensconced in the steadfast keeping of Lodge Fraser No. 67 of Rosehearty. Its reputation had grown in the telling—an emblem of fellowship, labour, and honour—such that no small company could hope to reclaim it. Thus was assembled a sizeable delegation, strong in number and resolute in spirit, to ensure its safe capture and worthy transit to its new home in Cruden Bay.
At the head of this fellowship strode the Right Worshipful Master, Daly the Worshipful, a leader of stout heart and unwavering resolve. Though modest in stature, his presence loomed large, for wisdom and determination shone from him as from a well-forged blade. Under his guidance marched a fine array of brethren, drawn from the most recent intakes of the Lodge—new blood, yet already proven in loyalty and zeal. They were the future made manifest, bound together by trust and shared purpose.
There was no question of failure in their minds as they set forth. The road ahead, though not long, was rich with significance, and each step was taken with a single aim. Together they crossed thresholds, exchanged solemn greetings, and at last laid hands upon their prize. The Travelling Trowel was secured, its journey turned, its fate rewritten.
With the quest fulfilled, the brethren returned in triumph, bearing not merely an object, but the glory of shared endeavour. This victory shall be spoken of for many weeks and months to come, in word and in good fellowship, as the tale of eight who stood as one.
Accompanying Daly the Worshipful on this worthy undertaking were Brothers Anderson, Crawley, Hines, Jones, MacPhearson, McLean, and Nathan—names now woven into the growing legend of Lodge St Olaf. And so the chronicle records: the quest was undertaken, the prize was claimed, and the bond of brotherhood was made all the stronger.
