The Wreath of Remembrance: A Tribute to the Fallen
In the waning days of autumn, beneath a sky of solemn gray, two valiant brothers of Lodge St. Olaf prepared to honor the memory of those who had journeyed before them into the shadowed lands of history. It was Remembrance Day, a time for reflection, gratitude, and the solemn promise never to forget.
R.W.M. Bro. Ewan Mackay, bearer of the gavel and steward of the Lodge, stood alongside his loyal W.S.W. and R.W.M. elect, Bro. Trevor Cooke. In their hands, they carried a wreath of poppies, crimson as the blood of heroes, a token of respect for the brave souls who had given all in the name of freedom and peace.
A Symbol of Sacrifice
The wreath, fashioned with care and adorned with the poppies’ vivid hue, bore not only the colors of remembrance but also the weight of countless stories—of valor, of sacrifice, of love for kin and country. Together, the two brothers stood at the threshold of their journey, united in purpose as they prepared to join the community at the Remembrance Day service.
The Spirit of the Lodge
Bro. Cooke carried more than a wreath; he carried the spirit of Lodge St. Olaf, its legacy of brotherhood, service, and compassion. In his presence was the echo of brethren long past, whose hands had once shaped the Lodge and whose deeds had inspired those who followed.
A Future in Safe Hands
For Bro. Cooke, soon to ascend to the East as R.W.M., the moment carried an added weight, a reminder of the responsibilities he would soon shoulder. Yet standing beside Bro. Mackay, he drew strength from their shared purpose, knowing that the legacy of Lodge St. Olaf was one of resilience and unity.
And so, beneath the watchful eyes of those who dwell beyond the veil, the brethren of Lodge St. Olaf honored their sacred charge. With the laying of the wreath, they renewed their vow to remember, to cherish, and to strive always for a better world—a world worthy of those who sacrificed so much.
