Other Adventures: The Road & The Miles Tae Dundee
A Journey to the Tay: The Fellowship’s Coastal Quest
In the Year of Light 2022, on the 11th day of June, five brethren of Lodge St. Olaf set forth on a quest both noble and convivial, their destination the storied city of Dundee upon the banks of the River Tay.
With hearts alight and fellowship strong, the company began their annual sabbatical, an occasion marked by camaraderie, discovery, and the raising of glasses in mutual cheer. This year, the call of the Tay, with its shimmering waters and the promise of good company, guided their steps.
The Walk of the Five
From the first light of morning, the brethren—Bill Murray, Jim Connor, Trevor Cooke, Doug Sheal, and Barrie Harper—set their course along Dundee’s coastline, where the River Tay meets the North Sea. With the gentle sound of waves lapping upon the shore and the cool breeze carrying the scent of salt and adventure, their spirits were high.
As they journeyed, the Fellowship encountered many a welcoming alehouse, each one a sanctuary of refreshment and laughter. Here, the burdens of the road were lightened by the finest ales and goodly conversation, the clink of tankards punctuating tales of past quests and hopes for adventures yet to come.
A City of Contrasts
Dundee itself, a city both ancient and industrious, offered much to marvel at. From the majestic sight of the Tay Rail Bridge stretching across the waters like an eternal sentinel, to the modern wonders of the V&A Museum, the brethren found their journey rich in sights and stories. Yet it was not the monuments of stone and steel that mattered most, but the bonds forged anew in the spirit of fellowship.
A Fellowship Renewed
Though the hours passed swiftly, each step along the coastal path brought the brethren closer together, their shared laughter echoing against the tide. In the simplest moments—whether raising a toast in a bustling tavern or pausing to gaze upon the sunlit river—the company rediscovered the joy that lies at the heart of their Brotherhood.
As the weekend drew to a close, the Fellowship returned to their lodge rooms with tales to tell and memories to cherish. Their journey to Dundee, though modest in scale, stood as a testament to the enduring strength of camaraderie and the ever-welcoming hearth of Lodge St. Olaf.
Thus ends the account of the Fellowship’s walk along the Tay, a tale of ale and amity, written in the winds of the coast and etched in the hearts of those who journeyed together.
