RWM. Ewan Robertson’s Mission
When Bro. Ewan Robertson was installed as Right Worshipful Master of Lodge St. Olaf, one of his primary goals during his term in office was to see the Lodge Rooms refurbished. It had been some 20 years since they had last been decorated and they were in need of more than a lick of paint.
Bro. Robertson’s approach was radical, he oversaw the ripping out of the interior within the first few days of the closed season during his first year in the chair meaning that there was no option but to complete all of the works required before the lodge reopened on the 1st Thursday in October.
The work was largely carried out by members of the Lodge, with a little external expertise being hired in to attend to plastering walls and rewiring the electrics.
The work progressed at pace during the summer months and was completed on target allowing the Lodge to reopen as planned for the new season.
There were many upgrades to the Lodge Rooms at this time including the half paneling of the walls, new seating, and perhaps most prominent of all, the new stained glass window bearing the Lodge logo on the West wall which was designed and created by Bro. Gordon Mackay P.M..
The exterior gates which were fabricated by Bro. Graeme Sutherland, and the painting of King Solomon located on the East wall of the lodge, which was painted by Bro. Jim Taylor P.M. (also pictured above) were created during earlier upgrades, but remain important elements of Lodge St. Olaf and continues to be much admired by members and visitors alike.
