Lodge St. Olaf Annual Sabbatical 2015 – A Memorable Weekend in Elgin
The annual sabbatical of Lodge St. Olaf in 2015 proved to be another resounding success, with members enjoying a convivial weekend away in the historic Morayshire town of Elgin. Known for its welcoming atmosphere, rich heritage, and excellent hospitality, Elgin provided the perfect backdrop for a relaxing and sociable gathering of brethren.
From the moment the group arrived, the tone for the weekend was set—good company, good humour, and plenty of stories shared among friends. As has become tradition during the lodge’s annual sabbaticals, the emphasis was on fellowship, laughter, and enjoying the local delights the host town had to offer.
One of the highlights of the weekend was the group’s exploration of Elgin’s dining scene. Members sampled some of the best curry houses in the town, where lively conversation flowed as freely as the refreshments. The meals were thoroughly enjoyed by all, with many declaring the culinary offerings among the finest experienced on any of the lodge’s trips.
No visit to Speyside would be complete without sampling its most famous export, and the group made sure to include a visit to a local distillery in their itinerary. The tour provided an interesting insight into the craft and tradition of whisky making, followed, of course, by the opportunity to appreciate the finished product. The visit was both educational and enjoyable, adding another memorable chapter to the weekend’s activities.
The 2015 sabbatical also carried a special significance for several of those in attendance. For a number of members, the trip marked the first opportunity to make use of their newly acquired bus passes. The novelty of travelling under these newly earned privileges was met with much good-natured humour, and it became something of a running joke throughout the weekend.
As always, the true success of the sabbatical lay in the camaraderie shared among those present. Friendships were strengthened, laughter was plentiful, and the weekend served as a welcome break from the routines of everyday life.
By the time the party made their way home, there was a unanimous feeling that the Elgin sabbatical would be remembered as one of the lodge’s most enjoyable outings. With fine food, fine whisky, and fine company, the 2015 gathering perfectly captured the spirit of Lodge St. Olaf’s annual tradition.
