Lodge St. Olaf 1188
Covid Notification
In line with Covid 19 guidelines, the Lodge held no meetings between March 2020 and the 7th of October 2021, which was the scheduled resumption date for the 2021-22 season.
We would advise any Bretheren attending or visiting the lodge that prevailing Covid guidelines will be in place for the foreseeable future, and it is highly likely that meetings throughout the 2021-2022 season may well be altered to take into account reduced numbers in attendance.
We do not envisage carrying out degree work this season, and some of our regular meetings may be social rather than formal, so please check the proposed details below prior to attending.
UPDATE: Following government guidance on Tuesday 25th January 2022 recommending the removal of many restrictions, we have taken the decision to recommence lodge meetings from Thursday 27th January, however we do advise that social distancing will sill be required at the prescribed distance of 1mtr. and as the nature of our Lodge Rooms are compact and without ventilation, face masks will be worn.
We would also ask everyone attending our scheduled meetings to complete a lateral flow test in advance and only attend if a negative result is shown.
A BIG change to our programme has been taken for the 2021/2022 Season
In reaction to the aftermath of the Covid Lockdown which has had a huge impact on our lives and also on our ability to attend our Lodges regularly, we have decided to take the following action.
Across the country returning numbers have been low which is having an impact on how Lodges can operate, and many are changing their programmes to help address the challenges they are facing.
As we have no candidates in the pipeline and therefore a season of Business Meetings in prospect, we have decided to act quickly, and with the approval of Provincial Grand Lodge we will maintain our fortnightly meeting schedule but will aim to make every second meeting a social meeting, although we might not be able to adhere strictly to that pattern and may vary dependant on prevailing circumstances. On these social occasions, brethren will be permitted to wear casual attire when attending, however, the Lodge will still need to be opened and closed to comply with our By-Laws, but it will be our intention to affect this part of the proceedings very quickly so the social evening can proceed from around 7:40 pm.
We will also welcome non-members into these social evenings, friends, family and anyone at all who might be interested in joining us for some social banter, we haven’t yet decided on the nature of these evenings, but it is likely that there will be some form of competitive ‘pub gaming’ to get involved in along with appropriate refreshments.
We really do hope that these social evenings will attract our regular brethren and perhaps entice back into the fold some who have drifted away over the years.
We will keep the Calendar below updated so everyone will know what form of evening we will be holding throughout the coming season.

The Antient, Free and Accepted Lodge of Scottish Freemasons have been meeting in Cruden Bay since 1919, since when the “Lodge” has been a popular centre of friendship for hundreds of village men.
Freemasons Lodges meet on a regular basis, generally during the months between October and May. Lodge St. Olaf meets fortnightly from the first Thursday in October through until March inclusive, check our meeting dates detailed above.
The local lodge in Cruden Bay, like all Masonic lodges, is actively involved in benevolent and charitable causes, and fund raises on an ongoing basis to provide support and assistance where it is needed. Lodge St Olaf, although only a small village lodge, has donated tens of thousands of pounds to local causes since its inauguration in 1919, and remains committed to the self same principles to this day.
If you are interested in finding out more about the work carried out by Lodge St. Olaf, or Freemasonry in general, there is a great deal of useful information posted on the internet in general, and in sites like our which we hope you enjoy exploring.
The lodge always extends the hand of friendship to visiting freemasons, and is equally keen to meet potential new members who might like to join. If you fall into either of these categories, why don’t you take this opportunity to make contact by e-mail.
Our Lodge has always been proud of its reputation as a friendly welcoming Lodge. Over the years we have hosted many fundraising events and taken part in a wide range of extracurricular adventures which have seen ‘Adventurers’ travel to every corner of Scotland, these were often fundraising projects in themselves which help boost lodge benevolence over the years.
The once infamous Ythan Raft Race was a regular outing for the Lodge, much of the fun and games can be read about on this website, be sure to check it out.
Below are a few headlights of some of the more current notes of interest, we hope you enjoy exploring our website, and thank you for visiting.
An apron for the next generation
I was recently approached by the widow of a passed brother (Bro. James Mennie at 90 years of age) who had found amongst his belongings his dress apron. There were no family members to pass the apron onto and knowing that I was in the craft, she approached me and asked...
