Jim Taylor became an affiliate member of Lodge St. Olaf in the 1980s, his Mother Lodge being Forbes 67 in Rosehearty. From the moment he joined, Jim became an integral part of the vibrant and dynamic 1980s cohort that worked tirelessly to ensure Lodge St. Olaf remained a relevant and welcoming space for the young men of the village and their families. His contributions helped to shape the Lodge as a cornerstone of community life during that transformative era.

Professionally, Jim was an art teacher at Peterhead Academy, a role that highlighted his creative talents and his ability to inspire others. His artistic skills found a lasting place within the Lodge during the refurbishment of 1987 when he painted the stunning mural of King Solomon, which remains prominently displayed on the East wall. This mural, admired by all who visit, carries a personal touch—Jim included a self-portrait of himself as a young Mason, immortalising his dedication and love for the craft.

Beyond his contributions to Lodge St. Olaf, Jim also played an active role in the wider Masonic community. He became a respected member of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Aberdeenshire East, representing the Lodge with distinction and earning the respect of his peers. In October 2022 his decades of service and dedication to Freemasonry were fittingly recognised in a formal ceremony, during which he was honored for 50 years of commitment to the craft, an achievement captured in the the photograph below.
