One of Lodge St. Olaf’s most iconic and unforgettable entries in the Ythan Raft Race came the year they transformed into the “Booze Brothers,” a playful homage to the cult classic film The Blues Brothers. Staying true to the movie’s quirky charm, the crew went all out, constructing a full-sized replica of the American police car featured in the film. This centre-piece, balanced humorously atop the raft, was an engineering feat and a comedic masterpiece that drew cheers and laughter from spectators along the riverbanks.
The crew themselves fully embraced their roles. Initially dressed in black suits, white shirts, and ties, they could have easily been mistaken for a group of masons heading to a Lodge meeting. But once they donned the signature black hats and sunglasses, there was no mistaking their identity—they were the one and only “Booze Brothers.”
On race day, the raft and its crew embodied the high-energy, mischievous spirit of the film. Their infectious enthusiasm and impeccable attention to detail made this entry a fan favourite. It not only demonstrated the Lodge’s talent for theatrical creativity but also reinforced their ability to bring humour, excitement, and unforgettable moments to the Ythan Raft Race.
